Heart, Teeth & Blood Work oh My!

The day finally came and went but it was a LONG day.
We arrived at the hospital (Maggie and I had not eaten in 12 hours or had any liquids) at 9 am and I though she would be under by 10 and out of surgery by 12.
Was I wrong!
She wasn't even put under until after 12, that's 3 hours we had to kill in a boring hospital room that, thank God, had a TV with PBS so she watched clifford and arthur. Then after getting bored with that I pulled out the iPad and she watched espn football for an hour.

The nurses were amazing and We are fortunate to have a fantastic children's hospital! However It was a long day... by 2 she was finally in surgery and I had to have something to drink so I found the cafeteria and of course it was closed. Awesome. But the guy cleaning took pity on me and he gave me a bottle of diet coke :) I went back to out room thinking it would take 1 -2 hours... more like 4 :( Only positive I could think of was that the TV had travel channel so I watched 4 episodes of No Reservations.
Waking up his time was much harder than previous experiences. She did not take to the multiple rounds of anesthesia well, on top of morphine and empty stomach it was not good.
Yes, she LOVES her vikings! Good news is were moving along with her Heart doctor, teeth are clean and she only had a couple cavities (which for as difficult it is cleaning her teeth, is fantastic!)

Football I love thee

January was an exciting month with the Superbowl, with the endless coverage of football on TV and pictures in magazines. Going out and seeing everyone wear jerseys. Maggie loves January and the Football frenzy that is the Superbowl. However when February came and weekends were no longer filled with football I had a very sad little girl. How do you explain to a then 4 yr old, that the season will return in a few months but the football players need a break?

Every Saturday and Sunday morning she wakes up and points to her Adrian Peterson Poster next to her bed and signs 'Football' and then when I say 'not today' she quickly signs 'Please' -because that works for almost everything she wants. I really love that she tries so hard to communicate and is motivated when it's something she really likes or wants.

It's no wonder to me that she signs 'Cereal' & 'Touchdown/Football'
:)

No football on the weekends is not an option so as the caring mother who would do anything for her child.... resorts to NFL channel and Vikings DVD's .... I know pathetic and kinda sad... but watch this video and you'll understand

Pure Joy and Happiness. I know what my baby loves!

Tissues

Touchdown! This is the sign for football, the sign the referee makes when a team scores a touchdown. Maggie cannot tell you with words but she knows a touchdown when she sees one! She will also sign 'False Start' and 'Holding' - she will also shoot you a death glare if your being loud and talking and not watching the game! With the 2011 season still months away I have turned to DVD's, NFL channel, & other football related items for motivators.

We have a Snuggie, multiple Jersey's, T-shirts, keychain, car stickers, a patch on her backpack, socks, football books and football movies. And now Vikings Tissues! I thought it was cute with the socks, I think tissues might have crossed the line into excessive.
But if my options are running nose or clean nose- I'm choosing clean. Happy Child over frustrated Child. Don't Worry Be Happy!
It's a little crazy but She's a True Fan!

Vikings Vs. Bears

This Game actually took place a couple weeks ago, but seeing as my blogging has been negligent and I have been trying to catch up, my apologies for the order of these posts ...
No Surprise Maggie and I watched the game and as seeing that everything that could go wrong DID, The Metrodome collapse, Brett Favre's Concussion, having to play outside in a snow covered mess of the college stadium, etc... All things considered they were terrible :-)

BUT dinner was delicious I made a an Indian dish of slow cooked chicken in a vindaloo sauce then roasted potatoes with a bunch of spices and combined everything with peas - super yummy and Maggie friendly
Maggie was so excited when the game finally started, after being thrown off and not happy about having to wait another day for her beloved football (she wakes up on the weekend points to her football poster next to her bed and then signs 'football') It's going to be a rough adjustment when the season ends :(
She really thought the 'intense' fans were really cool... something the aspire too

And once again the Vikings lost... maybe next week will be better
It's not easy being a Vikings fan!

Sad, Sad Sunday . . . :(

Maggie Loves Football.
Mychael Loves the Vikings.
Sunday was an exciting and heartbreaking game.
Simply put - like a true Vikings fan I say, There is always next year :)

New shoes to complete our exciting day

Our Pre-game happy faces - still full of hope that the Purple Savior would pull through for the Vikes this season.
I love Mags crazy intense excitement!!
It's so cute how into it she gets.

Pretty Hair . . .
Maggie got a little soft football from the bank and she twists and mouths it during games - instead of her chewy for oral stim.

Vikes I still love you!!
Next season - I will see you Lambeau

Christmas Part 2

Christmas stockings which for Maggie, consisted of small board Dr. Suess books - Maggie received lots of books and she liked them all!
She also got a cute little polar bear which Rocky thought was for him to chew on which didn't go well with him when we took it away.

It's good to be the Baby - LOTS of Presents for MAGGIE :)
Best of all after the first present she just wanted to play with her old toys and had no desire to open any more
Mickey was the surprise from Santa this year which Maggie liked but kept pointing to the TV and signing movie every time we said mickey - She had more desire to watch Mickey than sit with him.
But the Present she was most excited about was her FAVRE JERSEY
I have mentioned several times that Maggie loves Football and she cheers every Sunday and occasional Monday for the Vikings - she saw the little viking head and purple and said "WOW"
It was a big hit!
